Surfrider Foundation Europe is a non profit organization, dedicated to defending, saving, improving and managing in a sustainable manner the ocean, coastline, waves and the people who enjoy them. Have a look at their recent fights
1/ OCEAN CALL FOR CLIMATE
The ocean, notably absent from negotiations despite playing a major role in climate regulation, must be taken into account in the future United Nations global climate regime. The ocean endures climate change in silence. Life there has been disrupted and is at risk of disappearing little by little. We should never forget that Life on Earth began in this same ocean. The climate system needs an ocean that is healthy and full of life to function properly.
2/ SAVE THE BEACHES
The world’s beaches are disappearing! If we don’t act now, 90% of them could be gone by 2100. Disturbing climate change, irrational coastal development and heavy coastline modification are to blame: sea level rise, extreme weather patterns, excessive concreting on our beaches, port expansions and sand plundering. Because beaches are not eternal, we must protect them now.
3/ SPOTS AND USERS IN DANGER
Disappearance of waves, closing down of beaches, health risks, limited access to surf spots, extreme weather patterns, all of these factors are as many threats hanging over surfing or any ocean-related activity. What are the causes? Disturbing climate change, irrational coastal developments and constant deterioration of water quality.
4/ SAVE OUR OCEANS FROM PLASTIC WASTE
Every second, 206 kilograms of rubbish end up in seas and oceans. This debris pollutes the oceans and participates in the build-up of “plastic continents”, thus becoming a real plague for marine species.
